Topics

Where possible all subjects will be taught through topic work. Numeracy and Literacy will also be taught daily. R.E. will focus on Special Times and Special Places during the year.

Reading books

Your child will have a home reading book chosen from a colour banded book box. You may help your child to change their reading book as often as they wish.

Library Books

The children choose a library book to take home and share with their family each week. Class 1’s books will be sent home on Wednesdays and should be returned before the following Wednesday, ready to be changed.

Jolly Phonics and Handwriting

Each week different letter sounds are introduced to the children, along with a short story and an action linked to each letter. The children are taught how to read and make words using these familiar sounds. The Jolly Phonics letters can be seen displayed in the classroom. Daily handwriting activities are planned where children learn to form the letters using a cursive style. The style of handwriting is displayed in the classroom.

PE Kits

Class 1 P.E. day is Monday. The PE kit is a white t-shirt and black or blue shorts or leggings. In the gym children do PE in bare feet. For the safety of the children, long hair should be tied back and earrings should be removed.

Summer Weather

In the summer months, weather permitting, we are likely to have P.E. outside, so please ensure that your child also has trainers to change into. You may wish to send your child to school wearing sun cream and a sun hat when the weather is particularly warm.

Medical Conditions

It is very important that you inform school if your child has a medical condition. In the case of children with asthma, it is extremely important that they have an inhaler with them each day.
