Weaving - Four Seasons (Foundation work, 2006-07)

In October 2006 the children in Class 1 worked with a textiles artist called Chris Mitchell. During this time they explored the art of weaving using many different materials. They also concentrated on using colours which reminded them of the seasons of the year.

The children in Class 1 have been exploring colours in the environment. They have experimented with colour mixing and have discussed how different colours make them feel. The children have been thinking about how colours change during the different times of the year. They made four group collages of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. They also created pictures whilst listening to The four Seasons by Vivaldi.

On Monday 2nd October Chris Mitchell was invited to work with the children to explore weaving. The children used card, paper, garden mesh, lace, ribbons, fabric and wool to produce some wonderful work. The children are currently working on their wool weaving and when these are complete they will be combined to create one large wall hanging, which will be displayed in the classroom. The children are working very hard with their weaving and are very proud of their work. We can’t wait to see the finished creation!
